Watering the flowe...brother???

A purely accidental shot that I got while trying to get a picture of Kasen watering the plants. I LOVE it! Poor Kelton! Thankfully he came directly up to me after, gave me an extremely wet hug, and was consoled rather quickly. Boys are great!

Backyard Times

I've been playing around with my camera lately, and these are some pictures I took in our backyard last night.  The boys were really good about it even though Kelton broke down for a few minutes near the end (you can see in the following pictures).

Both boys love (and always have) to swing.  We bought our play set a couple of weeks ago off Craigslist.  My dad and I went and disassembled it (I was impressed that we were able to get it by ourselves--the thing is pretty large), and Kai and I reassembled it at our house.  I had been looking at several new sets for weeks, but the ones we wanted were very expensive and I just couldn't rationalize that much money for something they would only use for a few years, so I started looking for used ones.

I came across what ended up being "the one" and was so thankful I emailed about it so quickly and said we would take it.  The woman we bought it from had over 50 people after us all wanting to buy it.  It needed work to make it look new again (power washing, sanding, and re-staining), but it looks nice now and the boys spend hours every day on it!  It has 2 slides (one is a 360 covered), 3 swings, 4 rock climbing walls, monkey bar rings, 2 towers, a bridge/walkway, 2 sandbox areas, and a few accessories.  We feel so grateful to have found it because the boys are entertained for hours now!

BABIES!

Our baby birds are hatching!!!  1 started hatching today and we got to see it as soon as it hatched!  The pictures below are within 4 hours of each other.  The ones with no fuzz are the initial pictures and the ones with fuzz are 4 hours later.  I did a little research and I think the blue speckled eggs are common house finches and the brown speckled eggs are brown headed cowbirds (which lay eggs in other bird nests!).  3 of each.  The bird that hatched is a brown headed cowbird if my research is correct.  I knew they should be hatching any day due to my research, so we kept checking yesterday and today.  The boys LOVED it!  Kelton "talked" very excitedly about it, even though we didn't understand what he was saying.  He was very enthusiastic though!  And Kasen wanted to look at them every 10 minutes.  He had SO many questions (like always)!  He is definitely going to keep us busy...

Many of you may have experienced this many times and aren't overly impressed, but this is a first for me (except watching chicks hatch at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago)!  I think I loved it as much as the boys did!  BTW, every time I talk, the baby bird looks in my direction and opens his mouth looking for food.  I'm sure he does that for any noise, but I thought it was SO precious!  Life is so amazing!

June 13

Evening walk. Great day. Kai and I had a date this afternoon and I was reminded again of why I fell in love with him and continue to on a regular basis. Sometimes life with kids gets busy and chaotic and I get caught up in meals, cleaning, activities, schedules, etc. Just taking those extra moments when we can focus on each other and laugh together make such a difference. I'm so grateful for those times!

A Cozy Little Home

Look what I found tonight while plucking flowers from my petunia baskets! I can hardly wait to show the boys in the morning! I can only imagine how much fun we'll have waiting for them to hatch. Now I have to dig up some egg and bird stuff from my teaching days! Such fun is in store!

Where Babies Come From

Kasen told me tonight as I was putting him to bed that he knew where babies came from: "Mommy, I was born from your heart.". It may not be anatomically correct, but it is certainly true! Yes, my eyes misted and I hugged him closely. I love my boys and the simple truths they share with me!
